~Love Potion~

Happy Valentines Day! Today was a pretty quiet Valentines Day in our house, marked by Paulita having strep throat. I swear we never get sick like this...time for some spring cleaning to get the germs up and out! When we went to get Paula's prescription, each of the girls could pick a Valentines Day treat. Sara picked a little princess box of heart shaped chocolate, and Paula a Mickey and Minnie in love lolipop made of marshmellow, to which she didn't like.

I had to get creative with Miguel...becuase I just felt like it wouldn't be Valentines Day without doing something for him. So....we bought a little candy bar of chocolate at the drug store, but I still wanted to do something more. At 3:45 it hits me....just moments before he got home from work. With our new juicer, to which I love and am completely fascinated with....I would make him some "Love Potion", basically a fresh natural juice of strawberries. Sara preferred to refer to it as a princess pink drink...hey whatever floats your boat! So I whipped it up and mixed it with some fresh oranges as well for sweetness, and gave it to both girls. Sara drank it and liked it, but Paula I had to give to her in a medicine dropper to get her to take it. After I asked each of the girls who they were in love with and they said Mami.

So we were super psyched with our Valentines Day Love Potion. Here are some pictures, I wanted to have the photos with out children, but Sara just couldn't wait to try it. Thought the one was pretty funny becuase you can see her sticking her tongue in it!

I guess all of what I consider "winter holidays" are behind us, and now it is on to spring. Happy Valentines from our home to yours!

Miguel is truly the love of my life. We met 10 years ago working in a special needs camp in Grand Rapids Michigan. Meeting Miguel made me believe in fate. What were the chances that two people...one from Chicago and one from Caracas Venezuela would end up in Grand Rapids Michigan at the same time, at the same place, and fall in love? Miguel is a true hobbiest, a jack of all trades. I never know what will be next....some of his loves have been, kayak buliding, bonsai growing, snowboarding (to which we did together back in the day), composting, rain barreling, green housing....and most recently "vegan gone bad"....HUNTING!.....You will truly love his adventures.....

Paula is the boss, she really runs the show. She is a fun loving, adventurous, outgoing, full of energy, 4 year old. She amazes me with her creativity and I really believe that when she gets a little bit older she will be just like Miguel....quite the hobbiest.

It is hard to believe that my baby girl is going to be in Kinder next year. Paula was really a dream come true for me. I always wanted to be a Mommy. She has challenged me, shown me the true meaning of patience, taught me that it is okay to be COMPLETELY against dresses, kept me on my toes, and I have loved her every single moment of every single day for the past four years!!!!

Paula was a dream come true for me because I always wanted to be a Mommy and she was my first baby. Sara was a dream come true for me becuase being the only girl in my family, I always wanted to have "sisters". I cherish every single moment of having two girls, and I hope they are best friends always. The girls call each other "sissy", "big sis", "lil sis", and "sister". When I ask Sara what Paula's name is she looks at me and says "sister" as if she wants to say...what
else would it be?

Sara is my little love bug!!! She is such a cuddler. For every moment of Paula being outgoing, Sara is SOOO shy! She is my girly girl, into everything princess, dolls, pink and purple, tights, and DRESSES!!!! Her zodiac is a scorpion, and scorpion she is, stubborn but loyal and devoted!

Sara sustained a birth injury called a brachial plexus injury which is the result of a complication during labor called a shoulder dystocia. She was too large of a baby for me to deliver vaginally and was stuck between my pubic bone and tail bone during her delivery. In order to deliver her, the doctor puller her by the head, which caused a stretch in her nerves in her neck, and resulted in a birth injury called a Brachial Plexus Injury (BPI). At birth her right arm (with the exception of her fingers) was completely paralyzed and fell flat to her side, completely limp. After countless hours of therapy, many many home exercises for range of motion, lots of orthotics, pool therapy, and fabulous Dr.'s, Sara has come leaps and bounds, but every day is an adventure!!!
